Extract civil registry

Sometimes, you need to show a document that proves, for example, where you were born or married. For this, you need an extract from the civil registry. This extract may include information about birth, marriage, registered partnership, divorce, and death.

What you need to know

Some important events in your life are recorded by the municipality in an official document. These events include birth, death, marriage or registration of a partnership. These records remain in the municipality where the event took place. You need to request an extract from such a record from the municipality where the event occurred. For example, if you got married in the municipality of Nijmegen, you should request the extract of the marriage certificate from Nijmegen. Foreign records are registered in The Hague, so you must request them in The Hague.

If you're unsure whether you need to request the extract from Nijmegen or if you are not sure which extract you need, contact us. You will not get your money back if you order the wrong extract.

You can request an extract for yourself or for your parents, partner, or child.

When you will receive the extract

For online requests, you will receive the extract within a week by mail. If you make an appointment, you will get the extract immediately after your appointment. An exception is the extract with a multilingual model form. We will send such an extract by mail, even if you have an appointment.
